Dumbledore

My favourite summer dumbledore!
Not the famous wizard from Harry Potter,
but this bumblebee in my garden.
It turns out that dumble and bumble both refer
to the humming sound the bees make as they buzz their wings.

I love the way the wings' full rotation is caught and frozen in one click of the camera!  (I'm not quite sure how I managed to do that.)

This has been my summer's passion, following these little guys from flower to flower, trying to catch them in flight.

Most of my garden is planted to attract bees, butterflies and birds (in that order) and I'm always saddened by the number of people I meet who are terrified of, or hate, bees.  We benefit so much from the work they do all spring and summer; they deserve our appreciation and respect.

  1. Awesome awesome bee shots! Love the colors. I know...I don't understand people's fear of bees.....well maybe if they were attacked by a swarm of them....otherwise they are pretty harmless things:) I didn't know that bit about dumble.....very cool. Have a great weekend!

    1. I've seen more bees in the last few weeks than I have all summer, they must be rushing before the flowers disappear :) Their buzzing in the garden makes me ridiculously happy.

    1. Hmmm, now you have me wondering which insect should be Professor Snape! This crazy looking flower is called Monarda, or Bee Balm, now you can see where the flower gets its name :)

    1. Thanks Nadezda, it is much harder to capture them than I thought it would be, they are unpredictable when they fly!

    1. Yes, Juliana, they are getting slower, but are out there every day getting every last drop of nectar before the flower disappear :) Happy Sunday to you as well and I hope you have a great first day at work on Monday!
