Bohemian Rhapsody

Open your eyes look up to the skies and see...

This beautiful Bohemian Waxwing!

Named "Bohemian" for their nomadic movements, these birds travel around from fruited tree to tree never staying long in any one area.

They seemed very happy to stay away from me and my camera,
burying themselves deep within the branches of the trees.

The few I managed to take pictures of were stragglers,
slow to follow the flock as they moved to a new location.

  6. I love Waxwings - they are beautiful birds. I think that you might enjoy this site:-

You might find some inspiration and a new way to feed them, tempting them nearer to the camera.

  7. Lovely pictures, and I appreciate bird photos all the more after starting to take them myself. I have yet to take one decent picture of a bird in my garden, they are just too quick and too shy for me! I think I need to have a different lens so I can be further away when taking the pictures, my lens is 18-55mm, it came with the camera and I haven't been able to afford buying any other lens yet.

  8. Playing hard to get eh?
They are "handsome" birds no doubt.
But I'd say that you managed to capture gorgeous shots of them even with their swift movements.
    Don't worry Rosemary.
I think you'll get more luck for close-ups next time :)
    You'll see...

  13. Very nice pictures and a lovely bird:) In Denmark they came in big numbers during early winter,in hunt for the last appels remaining on the fruit-trees and it was an amazing view to watch these birds eat away, plus they were not very shy, so you really could have a wonderful moment watching them!
    Have a nice weeeknd:)

  20. Hi Rosemary! It's so nice to meet you!! I really enjoyed my visit to your blog last evening, but didn't leave a comment because I was caught up in your past posts--And I enjoyed this one too! I had no idea that's why they had 'Bohemian' in their name. I used to enjoy seeing them when we lived in Alaska, they are really beautiful birds.

    Enjoy your weekend!
