Upside Down, Round and Round

"Meep, meep,"
with its persistent traffic-clearing horn for a song,

The White-breasted Nuthatch circles round the feeder.
Rightside-up and upside down,

He's an acrobat when it comes to extracting tasty bits of peanut.

    1. Yes Tammy, the ability to cling onto the feeder and twist every which way with that very long narrow beak at his disposal, the other birds don't stand a chance!

  8. We have Nuthatchs too, but ours have a grey/blue jacket, a white shirt and a very slick amber and black bar across their eyes. I love to see them hanging upside down on the nuts jabbing away for all they are worth. Gorgeous little birds.

    1. I love the different character that each type of bird has :) This one is so mild-mannered, even his chirp is low-toned and soft. We also have the red-breasted nuthatch with a bluish jacket and amber chest but I haven't managed to get a focused shot of him yet.

  12. I love that I hear them long before I see them. They fly so fast back and forth it becomes a game for me to find out where the heck they are! It's a miracle I even got this shot although they had been at my feeder for a couple of hours.
