Rosebud

My hardy wild rose is ignoring the cold weather
and putting on a swirling cream and red show.

New buds continue to form,
but I am missing the bees that frolicked from flower to flower
just a month ago.

Although my first name is Rosemary, I've always felt more akin with roses than the herb and anyone who has been at the other end of one of my barbed retorts would tend to agree.

My husband loves to call me Rosebud

(makes me smile every time.)

Luckily he is fully aware of the ancient Persian Proverb:

He who wants a rose must respect the thorn.

  4. I love both your word play and your seriously beautiful images, Rosemary. As an old newspaperman, I hear the clack-clack of ancient typewriters at any mention of the name Rosebud, thanks to the movie Citizen Kane. Your husband's calling you that is much more charming. As are you. Cheers.

    1. I remember that movie. How serious the art of writing looked and sounded thanks to those typewriters!

  7. So beautiful. It is true that one must accept the thorns with the beauty (the good with the bad). Have a wonderful rest of your week.

    1. Yes, it's always the silly joke we laugh at in the kitchen, "put some rosemary on that," or "pass me the rosemary," it never gets old :)
