The grounds of Chateau Chenonceau are immense and include a forested section with paths, a labyrinth/maze, manicured decorative gardens as well as vegetable and flower gardens.
Now you can see why they needed a blog post of their own!
I knew I was in for a treat when I saw the size of the tree-lined entrance!
I might as well start with the maze because it brought out the excited child in me as I walked along the pathways trying to find my way to the centre and out.
After you exit the maze you find this columned structure which leads you into the forest paths.
Next we move on to the manicured gardens.
And last we move on to the vegetable and flower gardens. The route there takes us through the picture perfect houses and sheds of the workers that manage these expansive grounds.
Along the border of this entire area are knee-high, heavily pruned apple trees. I've never seen anything like them!
On the way out you can stop for a quick bite in the former stables which have been converted into a wonderful restaurant. Note the tables in the horse stalls.
Amazing, simply amazing. Any one of those elements would be enough for a magnificent estate - but a maze, forest, formal garden, AND a vegetable garden, just amazing. It looks like a fantastic place to visit.
ReplyDeleteIt was an absolute dream :) seriously, this is what I dream about now!

DeletePiękny ogród w którym jest wszystko : drzewa, krzewy, kwiaty i warzywa. Jest też bardzo zadbany. Z przyjemnością bym pokrążyła w labiryncie. Pozdrawiam.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful garden in which everything: trees, shrubs, flowers and vegetables. It is also very well maintained. With pleasure I derived in the maze. Yours.
