First Day of Spring

First day of what?!?

All the birds showed up for the first day of Spring.
Unfortunately so did 30 cm of new snow!

Miss Cardinal did not appreciate
how the snow was messing with her well-styled hair.

I heard the boisterous and distinctive calls
of this cloud of Red-Winged Blackbirds from inside my house.

I imagine they are reprimanding spring for her delay.

Like this dove,
all we can do is patiently wait
while winter gives us one last hurrah.

  1. Also here it is still winter Rosemary, today it has been snowing all day. Nice pictures you have created, does the Red-crested Cardinal there substitute in the wild? Here you see him never.

    Best regards,
    Ad

  3. Zima nie chce ustąpić wiośnie, nie chce odejść. Trzeba chyba jak gołąb,z ostatniego zdjęcia , poczekać na to cierpliwie. Pozdrawiam.
Winter does not want to give way to spring, do not want to leave. You have to think like a dove, with the last shot, wait for it patiently. Yours.

  4. The winter of eternal snow goes on here in Connecticut, too, Rosemary. Your fine and thoughtful images make it a lot less bleak. Thank you, and Happy What!?

  5. This does look more than winter than spring Rosemary but your pictures are amazingly beautiful as ever. You have such very different, gorgeous and colourful birds in your part of the world, birds that don't exist around here. It is always a joy to see your wonderful images, accompanied by inspired words. I hope the snow disappears soon and spring will finally arrive.
    Bye,
    Marian

  7. "Les photos de l'ensemble de mes amis emplumés me plaisent beaucoup !... Léo !"
Cette année chez nous aussi l'hiver s'éternise. Il semblerait que depuis un ou deux jours qu'il veuille bien laisser la place à Demoiselle Printemps... Une timidité constatée !
Bravo pour votre talent. Il n'est pas simple de capturer ces belles photos.
    Gros bisous

  8. Sheesh, not very spring-like. The grackles have arrived here as well, they are eating all the peanuts and sunflowers.

  9. Beautiful bird pictures you show from the first day of spring. 30 cm of snow - not exactly what I associate with spring.
Earth is also white of - in the garden, we have approx. 6 cm of snow. First, in March we had 12 + degrees and sol.Ønsker you a good Thursday :) Hugs Hanne Bente

  12. The birds look so adorable although they might be a little frustrated as well.
Hang in there Rosemary. Spring will be there. It's a matter of time.
And I thought the dove look so demure in that special color.
She too seems to be as patient as you :)

  13. I love the photo of the cardinal. Gorgeous.

Where I live we've had a few days of spring (almost 70 degrees). But now it's cold again and they're predicting snow.

  14. How disappointing for the birds. I love the well-coiffured Miss Cardinal. The Dove look quite similiar to what I have in my garden.

  24. What a sweet poetic post, I can almost hear the chirps of the birds! If I had to choose, my favorite would be the dove for her patience, sending lots of cheers for warm days ahead!

  25. You are so kind to provide them with food. Those cold snaps are terrible. I always feed lots of peanut butter stuff and they clean it out every single time:) And thistle seed!!!!
