Snow Ducks

Tired of paddling in the frigid pond
the ducks are on the move.

Spring has tickled the earth beneath the snow
and they forage for the vegetation that begins to grow.

They're funny
these forest ducks,

wiggling their way
around branch and tree,
maneuvering over root and snag.

With bright orange snowshoes
they waddle along

With an occasional stumble and flap
when one foot sinks too deep.

They look at home,
snuggled
in their warm brown
feathers.

Of course they'd like the snow.
It's nothing more than frozen water :)

I think that even though the ducks give advice, or would like to have spring. The photos are great. Regards warm.

  7. The colors of these Mallards contrast beautifully against the crisp white snow! I bet they are looking forward to the spring as well:)

  8. Aren't they sweet? And the jewel-toned green on the mallards is just gorgeous. I remember them at my university campus; I'd feed them and even carry them -- they were quite sociable really lol!

  16. Rosemary, I've long seen painters and carvers try mightily to portray the beauty and elegance and knowingness of ducks. Some come close. But you and your camera make them live.

  20. Lovely pictures Rosemary, but I feel for those ducks, it must be cold on their feet! I hope you see an end to the snow soon and get warmer weather. Here in London we don't have to battle with snow but we still have winter temperatures, with well below minus Celsius at night and not much more during the day. Coldest March since 1962! I wish you a great Easter!
