Home Sweet Home

Squirrels create their nests from the forests in which they live.
Leaves, twigs and grass are woven and packed into impenetrable spheres.

Their rustic, leafy homes dot the sky like distant planets.

Some nests are built in close proximity to their neighbours.

Others appear to be barricaded:

Do Not Enter!

Some dangle precariously at the end of a branch,
a testament to the agility of the builder.

This home, most probably a wasp or hornet's nest,
although different from the ones above,

captures what I believe:

Home is where the heart is :)

  1. They are all cosy, warm and intimate rather like a little Hobbit home, which incidentally I am hoping to see on Thursday.

    1. So true Rosemary, they do look like Hobbit homes :) Squirrels eat as often as Hobbit's do and have just as hairy toes, but they are much too active!

  4. Thank you so much for sharing this with us Rosemary. I had never seen one of those nests. Wouldn't have known what it was if I'd see one. There are no squirrels around here. They're such adorable creatures. And you're right, home is where the heart is.
    Bye,
    Marian

    1. It's only once the trees lose their leaves that you can even see the nests, they just blend right in (smart squirrels!)

    1. So true Willy, I look at all that beautifully swirled mud, like marble, and wonder how they do it!

  7. I think I would prefer the nest closer to the truck. It would be a bit scary to be dangling from a far out branch. So true that the squirrels build from the forest of which they live; the squirrels in my yard use the materials from the palm trees of which they nest in. Hope you week is off to a great start:)

  8. Your writing is very clever!
We have plenty of squirrels in Virginia. Some would say too many!

    1. Thank you Linda, we have the same situation with squirrels here, often there are too many but I only feel that way when they destroy my garden :( When they stick to the forest, I don't really mind.
