Cardinally Red

"He sifts through the blue evenings to his roost.
He is purple.
Soon he'll be black."

I heard him long before I saw him;
This Cardinal of many colours.
A black bird among the black berries.

Here he is, the brightest leaf in the tree.

It took me a while, but I did finally spot him among the branches below.
Do you see him?

I think there is a special red energy he exudes, that calls our eyes to him.
How else can he manage to outshine fall's greatest display of colour.

"Not to conform to any other colour
is the secret of being colourful."

  3. A gorgeous bird and magnificent pictures again.
It's not a bird we see around here, so thank you for sharing it here.
Amazing how you can really see it in the 'trees' picture. The brightest
of birds can be found where you live.
    Bye,
    Marian

    1. Luckily the cardinals and bluejays stay around during the winter cheering us up when things get cold and grey!

  4. He really is just a speck of brilliant red within the autumn leaves but even so his presence is palpable.

  5. Fantastic pictures, and every time I get jealous that we don't get cardinals here in North Dakota. And I looked and looked, but couldn't find him in the one picture.

    1. He's in the bare branches of the trees at the bottom of the hill, closest to the path on the right. I should have put a circle around him :)

  14. Hi Rosemary!!! I found the Cardinal! Very beautiful pics. Isn't it funny how bright the Cardinal is and also how hard it is to find one? I hear them first....and maybe will rarely see them:)

    1. He's even more attractive because he's elusive, but his song is quite distinctive and loud. He's our little red rock star!

  16. Oh dear!
I have only just read your comment on my blog nominating me for a Liebster Award!
    Many many thanks, Rosemary!
I will make an exception and accept it (because it's you!), but I need a couple of days to prepare my reply, if it's OK!
I am not sure what I should do though, and how to get the logo!?
    Let me know! ;-)
