"He sifts through the blue evenings to his roost.
He is purple.
Soon he'll be black."
I heard him long before I saw him;
This Cardinal of many colours.
A black bird among the black berries.
Here he is, the brightest leaf in the tree.
It took me a while, but I did finally spot him among the branches below.
Do you see him?
Do you see him?
I think there is a special red energy he exudes, that calls our eyes to him.
How else can he manage to outshine fall's greatest display of colour.
"Not to conform to any other colour
is the secret of being colourful."

Nice words Rosemary....congratulation for "catching" this bird. Today I have take some pictures of the greenfinch. He also was hidden behind some branches.
ReplyDeleteKind regards and have a nice evening,
Willy
Hello Willy, I think they hide behind the branches to tease us!
DeleteVos photos me subjuguent toujours autant... J'aime aussi les mots qui les accompagnent. Belle capture que ce très joli cardinal.
ReplyDeleteGros bisous.
Thank you Martine, this is one of my favourite birds and hopefully I will see it often during the winter :)
DeleteA gorgeous bird and magnificent pictures again.
ReplyDeleteIt's not a bird we see around here, so thank you for sharing it here.
Amazing how you can really see it in the 'trees' picture. The brightest
of birds can be found where you live.
Bye,
Marian
Luckily the cardinals and bluejays stay around during the winter cheering us up when things get cold and grey!
DeleteHe really is just a speck of brilliant red within the autumn leaves but even so his presence is palpable.
ReplyDeleteAnd he knows it :)
DeleteFantastic pictures, and every time I get jealous that we don't get cardinals here in North Dakota. And I looked and looked, but couldn't find him in the one picture.
ReplyDeleteHe's in the bare branches of the trees at the bottom of the hill, closest to the path on the right. I should have put a circle around him :)
Deleteone of the angry birds?))))
ReplyDeletewonderful captures!

He's a pretty happy guy because he has that whole hill to himself :)
DeleteGreat colors and I love that silhouette! I took some pics of a cardinal today but I haven't downloaded them yet.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to pop by and check them out!
DeleteOne of my favourite birds - we don't get them around our place up north. I did finally spot him in the tree - very well camouflaged !
ReplyDeleteOne of my favourites as well. He has such a distinctive call to go with that colour!
DeleteGreat pictures of the Cardinal, well photographed, Rosemary.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day, Irma
Thank you Irma :)
DeleteSono sempre stupende le tue fotografie, complimenti!!Buona giornata...ciao
ReplyDeleteThank you Giancarlo :)
DeleteNature knows camouflage to protect themselves.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos. hug
It's true, often I can hear him but can't find him!
DeleteZnalazłam ptaka, jest na dole po prawej stronie. Świetnie się schował. Pozdrawiam.
ReplyDeleteI found a bird, is on the bottom right. Great hiding. Yours.
You have good eyes Giga!
DeleteGorgeous cardinal and beautiful pictures. I long to see a cardinal in real life someday and hear him sing. We should import them!
ReplyDeleteMaybe they will work their way over to where you live, temperatures are swinging all over the place lately!
DeleteHi Rosemary!!! I found the Cardinal! Very beautiful pics. Isn't it funny how bright the Cardinal is and also how hard it is to find one? I hear them first....and maybe will rarely see them:)
ReplyDeleteWith all the birding you've been doing I had no doubt you would find him!
DeleteWow! This bird is really something!
ReplyDeleteStriking fiery red..and I spot it immediately!
And the poem fits perfectly..
The world will be a better place if
everyone stays colorful :)
He's even more attractive because he's elusive, but his song is quite distinctive and loud. He's our little red rock star!
DeleteOh dear!
ReplyDeleteI have only just read your comment on my blog nominating me for a Liebster Award!
Many many thanks, Rosemary!
I will make an exception and accept it (because it's you!), but I need a couple of days to prepare my reply, if it's OK!
I am not sure what I should do though, and how to get the logo!?
Let me know! ;-)
