Wait One Day

This weed-like, invasive creature

had full run of the garden

when we first moved into our house.

I have tried to contain it to one,

small but generous section of my flower beds...

Each Spring it outruns my fingers and shovel,

skipping along the top of the soil, 

racing ahead of me

to wherever it wants.

In just one day

I discover it in a variety of new places

In just one day

it sends out roots for hundreds more

In just one day

it's a lime-green tight-budded rocket

In one more day

it bursts into a flaming yellow geodesic dome

In one more day

it relaxes into a lemon-yellow haze.

And on that day

I have no idea why I ever wanted to pull it out.

A Time For Tulips

They seemed in a rush this year,

to meet the sun.

And their colours have been

out-of-this-world,

on fire!

They mirror the glowing rays

that pulled them

from the cold, dark earth.

Atop long slim necks,

their heavy heads sway with the breeze,

dancing to the music

we call

Spring. 

Sunglasses Required

In cold climates like mine

it seems we wait so long

to feel the heat of the sun

that when Spring does

~ FINALLY ~

arrive

nature rushes

~ guiltily ~

replicating the glow of the burning sun

in as many flowers as she can

to banish our complaints.

Well done!

Snow Fool Like An April Fool

Every day in Montreal

is

April Fool's Day

until every last speck of snow

is

GONE!

In protest

I'm going to post

Spring flowers from 2014

until they actually

appear in my garden!

Faux-Sun

Deep in the middle of a February freeze,

with temperatures averaging -15 Celsius/5 Fahrenheit

for the next two weeks,

I've decided to create some faux sunshine

of my own

to chase away the cold.
