How do you know you're in love?
When the very sight of your beloved
makes your heart thump-a-thud.
When your eyes fill with stars,
and everything glows.
Thoughts of love hijack your mind.
There's a faraway look in your eyes
and a permanent, lopsided, grin on your face.
You walk around in a haze,
useless until the next time you meet.
But why am I talking about love?
It's because I went for a walk in a nearby park,
where I met...
These stunningly gorgeous wild grasses.
I believe they are Phragmites australis (Common Reed.)
Their seed heads lit by the sun made my heart dance.
Their seed heads lit by the sun made my heart dance.
I walked round and round taking picture after picture.
Click, "Gasp," click, "Oooooo," click, "Ahhhh."
I was in love.
For the blog post I knew many of the pictures would have to be eliminated.
I sat at the computer chewing my lips,
going back and forth over all my shots.
In each one I found some irristable slant of light, a unique colour or an elegance of pose that made it impossible to choose.
So there you have it.
You are stuck with these endless photos of grass because I am in love with each one of them.
They say love is blind
but I think love is grand.
Gorgeous! They remind me baby birds' down.
ReplyDeleteAnd they are just as soft :)
DeleteVery nice words and pictures....i love this post Rosemary.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Joop
I'm glad you like them, Joop!
DeleteSo pleased that you showed them all Rosemary - I have fallen in love too, especially with number, let me see, sorry I cannot chose either, they are all exquisite.
ReplyDeleteThank you Rosemary, it's nice to know I am not alone in being unable to choose :)
DeleteSo soft and fuzzy, I just want to grab them and watch them blow away in the wind like a dandelion. Great pictures!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, I believe they stay intact all winter. I'm going to have to go back to the park in a month and see :)
DeleteDear Rosemary!
ReplyDeleteWonderful plumes. Your photos delight.
They are beautiful.
I send greetings.
Thank you Lucia, I'm glad you like them.
DeleteI find grasses impossible to resist. I'm glad you and your magic camera couldn't resist either.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Lee, there is something so fundamental about grasses :)
DeleteMaravillosas fotos, tienen una suavidad increíbles, una luz preciosa!!Un abrazo.
ReplyDeleteThank you Silvina :)
DeleteI can so relate to this. Walking with my camera can be like a dance of love when I find a place or garden which is beyond beautiful and captures your soul as well as your eyes!
ReplyDeleteBeautifully said, thank you :)
DeleteRosemary, all these grasses are stunning, therefore you're in love. I love the photo where the grass is visible through the gazebo railings.
ReplyDeleteI liked the combination of durable wood gazebo parts and soft aerial grass.
I really liked that one as well Nadezda, for exactly the same reasons and also the contrast of the dark brown wood against the caramel colours in the background :)
DeleteLovely series! The grasses are beautiful and the light is great.
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda, we do have some wonderful "natural" parks in Montreal :)
DeleteAh yes, I know the feeling - when you're in tune with what you're capturing and the light is perfect and everything is cooperating, with every shot a keeper. Thanks for letting your heart overrule your head and sharing these.
ReplyDeleteThank you Rick! The only problem I had on this day was an intermittent breeze that tossed the seedheads in and out of focus, but I patiently waited for the wind to die down now and then and was very happy with the results.
DeleteNo wonder you were on a 'shooting' spree Rosemary!
ReplyDeleteWho could resist these beauties.
And you captured them with so much grace :)
Excellent!
Hello Ash, I was supposed to be going for a fast-paced walk with my daughter and instead stopped many, many times along the way to take pictures. My arms sure got a good workout from holding the camera up for so long :)
DeleteGreat beautifully photographed Rosemary.
ReplyDeleteThe light is amazing.
Thank you Irma, yes, the light is what brings the seedheads to life. They are quite dull and uninspiring without it :)
DeleteI especially like that last sentence-They say love is blind, but I think love is grand. Perfect words! I love the way light catches in ornamental and wild grasses. Your photos are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jennifer, I'm so happy you liked that last sentence, you must have had good experiences with love :)
DeleteGlad you included all of those shots, each one is stunning. Count me as one of those smitten with these images!
ReplyDeleteYay, so happy it's not just me who fell in love!
DeleteBeautiful plants!

Thank you Juliana :)
DeleteI am gasping here, too, Rosemary. These grasses are beautiful as are your photos of them. Gorgeous! The light seems to make them glow.
ReplyDeleteAh, the magical light... I think it improves everything it lands on, don't you? I'm so glad you like them :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, truely beautiful. I love all grasses and these made me gasp too. Thanks for sharing all of them, eliminating any would have been a sin. Christina
ReplyDeleteThank you Christina, that's the same way I felt :)
DeleteHello Rosmary, beautiful, all of them! And what a beautiful song you wrote!
ReplyDeleteWilly (from Holland)
Thank you Willy, I'm glad you like them :)
DeleteThey're all lovely. It's hard to pic sometimes which pic to post. I wish someone would do it for me sometimes:)
ReplyDeleteMost of the time I don't have a problem eliminating some, but these grasses play with the light in such a magical way that I was spellbound by each shot.
DeleteVery nice sense of color, form and light!
ReplyDeleteThank you Marius, nice to meet you :)
Deletefantastic blog!
ReplyDeletecongratulations!
