Nature's Vandals

Sometimes, instead of a new flower in bloom, this is what I'll find on my morning garden stroll:

A squirrel searching for buried treasure :(

A raccoon doing a little redecorating for me :(

Someone's taken a stroll through my plant :(

The Frog Prince, left broken and crown-less :(
A mystery insect that chomps at the stems of my sunflower seedlings :(

A reminder to me that my garden and I are only a small part of a much larger ecosystem.

  1. Sometimes I get so frustrated with the "larger ecosystem," especially when the squirrels eat my raspberries. On the other hand, I had a good laugh when they went after my jalapenos and discovered that they didn't like the peppers.

    1. Connie, that is so funny :) and the perfect revenge! I'm always trying to find the balance between "sharing" and keeping what I grow for myself.

  2. So frustrating! That wasn't the visit from nature you were hoping for!

    1. I guess we have to take the bad with the good, right?

  3. Such offense that your work and a lot of flowers are corrupted.

  5. I'm laughing but at the same time, I'm horrified. Naughty naughty! I think breaking the frog prince would have been crossing a line for me:) Our vandals here are more the human variety....the meth addicts. As for animals? Outside the city, packrats and javalina. For myself at our own garden, it used to be feral cats but that situation is much better. Just people.....and that's pretty sad!

  6. "Laughing and horrified"... that pretty much summarizes how I feel! Okay, meth addicts, that's truly scary and sad and you have my deepest sympathies. You drove me to google packrats and javalina (I've never heard of them). Javalina look quite fierce, I think I'll stick with my mischievous raccoon bandits :)
