Winter's Bite

Winter has been gnashing its teeth at us!

Wherever the icy rains land
they stick
and freeze mid-action,
creating beautiful, frozen statues.

Branches groan under the weight of their heavy cloak
and power lines crack and fall,
leaving many people without electricity.

So, we create a light of our own,
with stories and games,
laughter and patience.

(The power outage only lasted 26 hours for us.
So all is well, no need for anyone to worry.)

  1. Oh, 26 hours without electricity! What a icy weather is in your place Rosemary. Love your photos of icicles and candles --- nice combination:))

  2. Hello Rosemary,
    What a beautiful winter photos.
I love the first two pictures, beautiful icicles.
But 26 hours without stroon also means that the heater does not work.
    Have a good weekend.
    Best regards, Irma

  3. I'm sorry that you have such a cold winter and there was no electricity. The views of ice are beautiful nonetheless. Regards.

  4. A fascinating series of photos but pleased to learn that you are all now cosy and warm. That frozen all embracing coating that clings to the plants is a real threat to some of them.

  5. A lovely way to tell the story. I think we could all do with a power shortage once in a while, if not permanently eh?

  6. Glad that your power is back on. I love the images of icicles as teeth!

  7. Zulke stroomstoringen moet je toch ook meaar op zijn ingesteld. bij ons zouden de mensen in paniek raken.

  8. Ice & fire! what a great combination!

  9. It sounds like this must happen often around your area . . . I hope you heat with gas or have a generator or wood-stove and lanterns. Burrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr I'm getting cold just reading this. Great photos, by the way :)
    Connie :)

  10. Dear Rosemay, that is what I call winter! Keep warm! Groetjes from sunny and frost free Holand, Hetty

  11. Dear Rosemary
Your photos are beautiful as usual.
In you is the real winter.
I am very sorry that there was no electricity.

  12. Vervelend: zo'n stroomstoring maar voor even ook wel weer leuk lijkt me. Spelletjes spelen en elkaar verhalen vertellen: hoe leuk kun je het hebben! En vooral: die winter levert je wel prachtige plaatjes op.

    groet Trijnie

  13. In the Netherlands, it is now beginning to freeze some but as bad as it is with you and let you see it is not yet in the Netherlands. Beautiful pictures at the end with the wonderful warmth of the candles. Pity then again people without electricity get caught.

  14. Oh, 26 hours without power, I hope you have good wood burners in your house! In my house I sadly have to rely only on central heating powered by gas, if my electricity is gone I have no heating, which has happened a few times, it gets cold in the winter with no central heating and no other way of heating the house!
Loved your photos, they are exquisite as always :-)

Thank you so much for your kind words :)
